How do I get a Worcester Public Library card?

Answer

To pick up a physical library card at any branch all you need is to provide proof of your current address and a completed application and you will receive your library card immediately.

Print and complete a Library Card Application and bring your copy into one of our branches:

Can I use my library card on the day I apply?

Yes! You may have up to 50 items checked out on your card at a time.

Can I give my library card to a friend or family member to use for themselves?

No. You are responsible for everything checked out on your card and if the items are not returned you will be held responsible for them.

How can I renew my items?

Items that are eligible to be renewed will automatically renew on the due date. If you have an email address on file you will be notified of the renewals with an email notification. Patrons can also log into their account to view the status of all checked out items.

Can I have someone else pick up my holds for me?

Someone else must have your library card in order to pick up items being held in your name. Without your card, staff members are unable to give your hold to another individual.

If I forget my PIN number what should I do?

A PIN number gives you access to your own library card account and is necessary to use the computers in the library. Your PIN number can be reset when you try to access your account or come into the library with your library card and photo ID and staff at a service desk can help you. You may also reset your pin online or at the library Welcome Desk.

What happens if I forget my Library card?

You may use a photo ID at the circulation desk if you forget your card, however, you must have your library card to use our self-checkout machines and the DVD dispenser at the Main Library. It is important to always use your library card as this reduces error. There can be many people with the same name but your library card is unique!

How many DVDs can I borrow at a time?

You may have a total of 20 movies checked out on your library card at any one time.

How long can I borrow items for and am I charged a fine if I return something late?

You can see all the details on the Borrowing and Fines Policy here.

Library materials may be returned to any public library in Massachusetts that is part of the circulating CW MARS Network.
